Peggy Lorraine Kent

March 1, 1950 — June 12, 2023

Peggy L. Kent, age 73, passed away suddenly on June 12, 2023.

She was born March 1, 1950 in Rochester, NY.

She is predeceased by her parents, Harold and Mary Ruth Owens.

Peggy is survived by her husband, best friend and soulmate, John Kent, of Caledonia, NY. They were married for 52 years; together for 56. She is also survived by her son Jeff Kent, of Rochester, NY; son David Kent and his wife Pamela, of Syracuse, NY; grandson Ryan Kent, of Albany, NY; brother Ronald Owens and his wife Juanita of Fresno, CA; sister Carol Lambert-Walker and her partner Gary Gervasi of Rochester, NY; and her 2 beloved pups Zander and Abby. Peggy also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Ellen Shores and husband Robert, of Getzville, NY; 2 nephews; 5 nieces and their families; cousins; and the countless friends she made throughout her lifetime.

Peggy was raised in the city of Rochester and graduated from East High School, Class of '68. There was always a special place in her heart for her classmates. She was an active member of the reunion committee right up to her passing.

Peggy's life was driven by so many passions. She was a wonderful, caring and nurturing mother, not only to her sons, but to the scores of youngsters with whom she developed lasting relationships through her time with Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Church Youth and her many years driving school bus for the Caledonia-Mumford Central School District. Every year she was so excited about the fresh new batch of kindergarteners on her bus. (They were her favorite!)

Peggy was a DRIVER! Besides school bus, she could tow (and back-up) anything. She was a mini-van mom in the 90s, but loved the open air of motorcycling side-by-side with John. She had her own bike for a long time. When she decided to give up riding she found new enjoyment in her RED Mustang convertible, Scarlet. Top down, wind in her hair, roar of her cutouts... "Here comes Peggy!"

She loved to travel and had great respect and appreciation for the outdoors. Camping, backpacking, day camping, canoe camping, camper camping, and sometimes even motel camping. She did it all! She cooked over an open fire, cleaned her own fish and could care less about getting her hands and feet dirty. But she always cleaned up nicely for a night out at the philharmonic.

Peggy always had to have a creative outlet. She was deeply enthusiastic about so many of her hobbies over the years: ceramics, oil painting (on driftwood), stained glass, macramé, sewing, making clothes, cake decorating, wood crafts and quilting. Over time, fabric arts became her favorite pastime as she completed so many beautiful quilts and tapestries. Nearly all of her projects and creations, despite the medium, were handcrafted with a specific person in mind; everything was made with love.

Peggy was a 35+ year survivor of Multiple Sclerosis. She fought that disease with every imaginable ounce of strength and determination that one could possibly squeeze out. She managed to slow its progression to a crawl and refused to let it take her down.

Peg had a huge heart and the most genuine soul.

She was one of a kind and will live on forever in the memories of all those who knew and loved her.
