Ann B. Avallone

May 2, 1932 — February 10, 2023

Beloved Mother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 10, 2023 at age 90.

She is reunited with her husband Charles. She is also predeceased by her brothers Jim and Richard Burrows.

Ann is survived by her children, Lisa, Anthony (Lynn), Cathy (Gary), Angela, Charlie (Terri), Paula (Paul) and Jim (Sonia); her grandchildren, Andrew, Laura (Matt), Jack (Gabrielle), Nick, Evan, Marisa, James, Parker, Mitchell, Sarah, Emily and Kevin.

Ann was born in Williamsport, PA in 1932 and graduated from Georgetown University Nursing School. She sang in a co-ed barbershop quartet in college and was valedictorian of both her high school and nursing classes. Ann served as a nurse at Georgetown University Hospital and Walter Reed Army Hospital (both in DC) and at Strong Memorial Hospital. She taught nursing at St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Pennsylvania. She also worked at the Lycoming County Association for the Blind, screening for and teaching prevention of blindness as well as working with blind and visually impaired clients.

She married her college sweetheart, Dr. Charles J. Avallone, in 1958 and was a devoted wife for 59 years. She had seven children within 10 years and was a wonderful, patient, and loving mother as well as the go-to-parent for homework help. She loved kids and could drive a carpool full of kids, tune out all the ruckus, and listen peacefully to the oldies on the radio. As the kids left home, she always welcomed them back with something freshly baked and yummy.

She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as they grew up and they recognized her for her expert baking, milkshakes, and peanut butter golf balls.

Over the years, Ann volunteered for St Mary's Hospital Seton Group, sang with the Sweet Adeline's, and was a member of the Red Hat Society. She also played bridge and golf, spent winters in Florida, was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching her favorite teams on TV. Go Bills!

Ann was a dog lover and had a family dog by her side for many years.

The family would like to recognize the friendly and caring staff at Glenmere Assisted
Living.
