Beatrice Smith, known to her friends and family as Bea, died Monday, June 9th at the age of 91. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Smith for fifty-four years. She passed peacefully in her sleep. Bea was born on March 6, 1917 and raised in Geneva, New York, the third child and oldest daughter of Frederick and Hazel Heusler. She was a kind, loving woman and will be missed by all. She will always be remembered for her warm smile, her sharp wit and humor, and her love of flowers.
Her greatest joy was being with her family. She was the proud mother of four children: Edward (Lorraine Vail) Smith of Phoenix AZ, Richard (Cindi Norbut) Smith of Rochester, NY, Douglas (Marsha) Smith of Seneca Castle, NY, and Linda (Jerry) Heusler of Penn Yan, New York, and the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren: Christine Smith, Edward (Rhonda) Smith, Steven (Donna Sterlace) Smith, David (Daniela) Smith, Richard Smith, Michele (Mark) Budinski, Christopher Smith, Timothy Smith, Douglas Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Brian (Leslie) Ennis, and of eleven great- grandchildren: Jennifer Smith, Jasmine Smith, Patrick Smith, Benjamin Smith, Oliver Smith, Emily Budinski, Lisha Smith, Salem Smith, Emily Ennis, Aaron Ennis, Austin Ennis.
She loved visiting with her sisters and brothers. Bea is survived by her sisters Dottie Chambers and Rose Barrett, and her brother Donald (Marge) Heusler. Bea was predeceased in death by her sister Jean Kelly, and her brothers Frederick Heusler and Gerald Heusler.
Bea lived nearly all of her adult life on Electric Avenue in Rochester. She was a gracious hostess, whether it was chatting on her front porch, or serving wonderful meals for her family. She attended Geneva schools, and was most proud of her work as a pediatric nurse's aid at Strong Memorial Hospital. She played contract bridge with her husband at Kodak for many years, and they made many good friends.
Since 2005, Bea lived at Aaron Manor in Fairport, where she was surrounded by loving care and made many friends for which her family will be forever grateful.
A Memorial Service is planned for Friday, June 20th at 11:00am at Newcomer Funeral Home at 2636 Ridgeway Avenue in Rochester. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a charity of choice, or to Lifetime Care Hospice, who lovingly cared for Bea.
