Rochester, NY
Carole E. (Chris) Buck
Chris passed away August 3, 2024, at the age of 87, and is at peace and free now after several years in memory care. Chris was born in Washington DC, December 22, 1936, to Judge Einar B Christensen and Emily (Tober) Christensen (hence the red hair!) She is predeceased by her parents as well as her half brother Robert P. Davis. She is survived by her husband Charles (Chuck), daughter Leslie (Vicki Charles), son Robert Buck (Suzanne) and grandchildren, Jason and Sarah.
Chris learned to play the piano by ear at age 7. She played throughout her life and up to about 5 years ago she would still play the piano if you sat her in front of it. (You are my Sunshine was her favorite). Chris attended Mongomery Blair HS, Silver Spring, Maryland and then Washington College, Chesterton, Maryland where she met her husband of 66 years.
In 1966, Chris and Chuck moved their young family of four to Fayetteville NY from Maryland. They were longtime residents in the Brookside neighborhood, spending many memorable times with close neighborhood friends, having dinner parties, cookouts and a lot of laughter. As a family they enjoyed winters skiing at Song Mt, Mystic Mt and Toggenberg. Chris was so thrilled to be able to be close for the birth and growing up of her grandchildren. One of her favorite things to do was making Chocolate Chip cookies with her granddaughter, Sarah.
Chris was a preschool teacher for 10+ years at Creative Environment Day School in Fayetteville, NY. A very caring and thoughtful teacher, she was loved by her students and families, as evident by the gifts and thank yous she received at the end of the school year.
Chris and Chuck loved to play golf together and even coordinated their outfits! They joined the Pompey Club and enjoyed many years of golf and friendship there. They became "snowbirds" taking winters at Pawleys Plantation in Pawley's Island, SC and eventually moved to Pawleys full time, where they enjoyed warmer weather and continued to share their love of golf and many friendships. Eventually Chris and Chuck moved to Rochester NY to live closer to family.
Her family is grateful for all the love, support and care given to Chris while in memory care, first at The Lodge at Wolk Manor, and for the last 5 years by the caring angels of South 6 at St. Johns Home, as well as the Rochester Regional Hospice Nurses and team. A special note of thanks from her daughter, Leslie to all of her caregivers over the years. "It was such a great source of comfort and security to know that mom was safe, loved and looked after, when I couldn't be there all the time."
There will be no calling hours or services. A private family burial will take place at a later date. Those wishing to remember Chris, may make donations in her name Carole Buck, to St. Johns Home Foundation, 150 Highland Ave, Rochester, NY 14620 or www.sjlhome.com/foundation -- please designate/direct the gifts in appreciation of the Staff of South 6, or to the Rochester Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Meridian Centre Blvd, Suite 110, Rochester, NY 14618 or www.alz.org/rochesterny.
