BRIGHTON/ALBANY- Celia A. Tognetti, 90, passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2022 surrounded by the love of her family.
Celia was born on December 8, 1931 to the late Mario and Mary Patrucco in Long Island City, NY. She married her cherished husband Leo in 1950. Their family soon grew by two with the births of Edward and Patricia. The Tognetti's lived in Astoria, Queens for a number of years while Leo apprenticed in the cash register repair business. In the early 1960's the family moved to Dix Hills, Long Island and Leo started his own highly successful cash register sales and repair business.
Celia assisted Leo in his business but was primarily a lifelong homemaker. And what a homemaker she was! Both her mother and Leo's mother (native Italians) lived in their home and the aromas emanating from the kitchen were incredible. Dinners were warm multi-course affairs in both English and Italian. One guest loaded up on early-course home-made ravioli and was shocked when the roast came out. Things were just getting started.
Sorrow entered Celia's life when Leo passed away at a much too early age. After a bit, Celia moved to Albany, NY to be closer to Patricia. In Albany, she made many good friends with whom she played cards and Rummikub; and enjoyed many excursions, including a memorable cruise through the Panama Canal.
Celia also lost Edward much, much too soon. But she was a very strong woman and her faith and family pulled her through life's difficult times. Celia rejoiced when Edward's wife, Michelle, married a wonderful man who immediately became family.
In 2018, Patricia, Greg and Celia moved to the Rochester area to be closer to children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Celia found a wonderful apartment in St. John's Meadows where she, again, made many friends (because that's what she did - she made friends wherever she went).
Celia's family was her life. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and always made sure she had their latest baby pictures and school pictures prominently displayed. Celia had a heart of gold and always felt she wasn't doing enough for her family. She was mistaken. She was a one of a kind figure and she will be truly missed. RIP, Nonni.
Celia was predeceased by her parents, Mario and Mary; her husband, Leo; and her beloved son, Edward.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Macmillan (Gregor) of Pittsford, NY; daughter-in-law Michelle Tognetti (Tim Bakan) of Medina, Ohio; grandchildren: Andrew Macmillan (Lyndsey) of Brighton, NY; Elizabeth Francis (Christopher) of Lima, Ohio; Christina Douglas (David) of Irondequoit, NY; and Morgan Tognetti of Wadsworth, Ohio; great-grandchildren Jack and Laine Macmillan, Jacob and Alana Francis, and Cameron Douglas; many cousins in America and Italy; and so many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Celia's behalf, in memory of Edward Tognetti, to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, http://www.pancan.org; 877-272-6226.
