David Leon Parks, age 81, passed away peacefully at Unity Hospital in Rochester, NY on Friday, March 1, 2019. Born in Asbury Park, NJ, he was the son of the late Smith L. and Valda E. (Anderson) Parks and brother of the late Edward S. Parks.
He was raised in Rochester where he graduated from Charlotte High School with the Class of 1955 where he competed in several sports (soccer, basketball and baseball) and participated in Boy Scouts. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1957 to his honorable discharge in 1963 while serving in both active duty and the reserves with the 82 Airborne Division and Quartermaster Training at Fort Lee , VA . He was an employee of General Motors-Delco Products Division in Rochester for 31 years where he worked as a welder. From 1964 to 1976 he lived in Greece, NY and then in Sodus, NY with his former wife, Sandra, and their children. He returned to Rochester in 1989 where he resided in Spencerport and later in Gates with his companion of 30 years, Alma Hayes. David was an avid sportsman whether it be playing, coaching or as a spectator. He coached youth baseball in Sodus, enjoyed skiing at Brantling Ski Slopes in Sodus with his family and playing golf at Deerfield Country Club, Pinewood Country Club, Brockport Country Club and Sodus Bay Heights Country Club. He was a proud man who worked hard, played hard and loved his family.

Loving father of Heidi (Brian) Hawkins of North Attleboro, MA; Eric (Justine) Parks of Manchester, NY and Hedy (Peter) Swift of Fulshear, TX; step-father of William (Michelle ) Hayes of Greece, Thomas Hayes of Greece and Michael Hayes of Gates. Cherished grandfather of Sydney Hawkins, Samantha Hawkins, Stephanie Hawkins, Sandra Hawkins, Paul Parks (Samantha), Matthew Parks, Aurora Parks, Gustav Swift, Greta Swift; step-grandfather to Stephanie (Kyle) Sanders, Benjamin Hayes, Grace Hayes, Angelique Hayes and Jasmine Hayes; great-grandfather to Marley Smeal, Sloan Parks, Maddox Parks and Mason Sanders. Also survived by many loving cousins from Massachusetts and his former wife, Sandra (Grant) Genter, of Puntagorda, FL.
Inurnment is private with family at Whitehaven Memorial Park in Pittsford, NY. A memorial celebration is planned for June 16, 2019, Noon start, at the Sodus Bay Heights Country Club. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Unity Hospital Hospice or a charity of your choice.
