In the beginning, it was his strong shoulders that carried the weight. He tossed his daughter in the air making her giggle, searched for shells with her on the beach and watched sunsets hoping to see the elusive green flash as the sun dipped below the horizon. He made her feel safe. As she grew, the father helped with homework, and yes, spoiled his only child. He fostered her creativity with his own. He encouraged the daughter's education and never let her stop learning.
At the end, her strong shoulders carried the weight. She made sure the father remembered the giggles, the sand and the sunsets. She helped with the bills, the pills and daily needs. As his ability to do less and less grew, she brought new people into this family to help her father feel safe. Love and family surrounded the father until he left to meet the wife he missed so much.
Today we celebrate this full circle of life, love and learning.
