Their home built on love housed many generations of friends and family, always with room in both of their hearts to help people in their life who may need them. Douglas was selfless and honorable in his intentions/actions. Douglas was a devote patriot, and US Veteran who served in the Vietnam War before beginning his career at USPS where he retired proudly with 48 years of service. After his retirement he enjoyed a life of leisure, vacations, delicious food, and trips to the park with his family and animals by his side. Cats, Possum, Gizmo, Tom and Checkers, Dogs- Jackson and Bailey, grand-dog and cat Eva and Whiskers, several neighborhood Possum, and Racoons he took to caring for, as well as any small reptiles and other critters his family found along the way.
He especially enjoyed car rides with his brother-in-law Raymond Hale, stopping for banana splits and ice cream (no matter the season or weather) as well as supporting his friends and family through social media, and sharing online articles or videos with the people whom he loved. Douglas wanted everyone in his life to know he was thinking of them, no matter the time in between.
With all of these joys surrounding him in abundance, the true light of Doug's life will always be his three great nieces and nephews of whom him and Nancy cared for together and the time that they shared. He felt so much happiness and empathy to have the gift of being their Papa and one of the men in their life they could trust and depend upon.
Douglas was a gentle and caring man who leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and optimism for life.
