Ed M. Bolling
February 28, 1931 – July 17, 2020
Ed M. Bolling was born on February 28, 1931 to Ernest and Nora Bolling. Along with his four siblings, Lee Franklin, Doris Jean (Robert) Bunn, Wilma Sue (Richard) Bunn and Jerry Wayne, the family lived in Big Creek, Tennessee until they relocated to Bristol when the TVA dam was built and flooded the mountains they called home.
Ed met his first wife, Patricia (Livesay) and they were married on September 17, 1949. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952, starting with basic training at Sampson AFB on Seneca Lake in Western New York . After completing basic training, he was stationed at FE Warren AFB near Cheyenne, Wyoming and then in Japan during the Korean War. Ed and Pat had two children: Henry (1955) and Donna (1960).
After coming home to Tennessee from the service, Ed opened a service station in Bluff City. As his brother said on the day Ed passed away – his life was full of adventure and excitement. His defiance of the local authorities in regard to the "homemade alcohol" laws led to his move to Western New York, where he remained for the rest of his life. Ed purchased a 300-acre farm in Hamlin in 1965 where he raised vegetables and cattle. A year later he brought his family to join him. Besides farming, Ed worked at Delco Products as a skilled tradesman for 41 years. In the late 1980s, he ran for union representative in the IUE Local 509, which he won and proudly served his fellow workers. Delco was where he met some of his closest friends. As if his plate was not full enough, Ed was on the Board of Trustees at the Lyell Federal Credit Union (now Focus First) for many years, most recently holding the position of Treasurer until the day that he passed away. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason.
Later in his life, Ed met and married his current wife Marie (Newsome) in June 1999. After Ed's retirement in 2006, they enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas where he always seemed to get lucky. Ed loved to work on his land and run their vegetable stand, Marie's Place, in Brockport with his wife and sister-in-law Tootie Bliss. He enjoyed taking rides with Marie around the farm, you could always find him outside. He also loved to sit on the patio, drinking his morning coffee and watching the wildlife in the fields. Everyone that knew Ed knew that he was not a pet person, however he loved his cat Suzie that came to him as a kitten left on the side of the road many years ago.
Ed is predeceased by his parents, his son Henry, brother Lee and sisters Doris and Wilma. He is survived by his wife Marie; daughter Donna (James Kurten) and her mother Patricia, stepdaughters Mia Moore, Shawna (Marty) Haight, Gerri (Bryan) Hofstra; brother Jerry Wayne;
Grandchildren Patti (Stephen) Giglio, "Little" Eddie Bolling, Joshua Miner, Scott Klemann, Nellie Klemann, Mickey Moore, Nicole Haight, Allison Haight, Marissa Haight, Taylor Leasure-Hofstra, Maria Diaz, Roman Hofstra;
Great-grandchildren Liesl Unvericht, Karl Unvericht, Bryan Bolling, Violet Dalton, Gianni Leasure-Hofstra; and Suzie, his cat; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and special friends Joseph Klafehn and Justin Hofstra.
Ed was a blessing to all that were lucky enough to have known him. He will be missed by family and friends on earth but welcomed by family and friends in heaven for a joyous reunion.
He will be buried in his beloved Tennessee mountains with his mother, father, and son at the convenience of his family.
Friends may visit with his family and pay their respects from 2-4 pm Saturday July 25th on Ed and Marie's island at their home 8538 Ridge Road, Brockport New York, with a service for the family only to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Shriner's Hospitals for Children.
