Emma L. Steward, a beloved mother, grandmother, foster parent and friend was called home to be with the Lord on, December 7th 2024 at the age of 90.

Born in Leighton Alabama on April 27th 1934 to Jessie Goodwin and Clara Bates, Emma’s life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to family, community, and creating a better life for those she loved.

She attended Leighton Training School and graduating on May 6th 1952. Following graduation she married Nathaniel Steward Sr. and began their   family in Paducah Kentucky. Driven by a desire to provide greater opportunities for her family, Emma bravely relocated her children, to Rochester NY in 1967. This move marked a significant chapter in her life, where she would establish deep roots and touch countless lives.

 Emma embarked on a fulfilling career at Rochester General Hospital where her dedication and strong work ethic led her to a supervisory role. She served the hospital faithfully for three decades, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and the community alike. Guided by her profound love for children, she became a foster parent, opening her home and heart to numerous children in need.

The family will receive friends 10-12 noon Monday December 16th, 2024 at First Genesis Baptist Church, 292 Hudson Ave, Rochester, NY 14605. A funeral service will follow visitation at 12 noon. Interment Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers friends may make contributions to Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, 2652 Ridgeway Ave, Rochester, NY 14626 in memory of Emma.
