We are heartbroken to announce the death of our father, Ernest Raymond (Ray) Anderson, who passed away peacefully on March 28, 2023 at the age of 87, surrounded by the love and supported by the prayer of family and friends.
Dad was born on January 23, 1936. A life-long Rochesterian, he lived primarily in Irondequoit where he was raised and raised his family. Known by many loving names, Ray, married Ruth Ellen Horn, the love of his life, on August 26, 1961. Ruth survives him as do his children, Mark, Paul (Nancy), Matthew (Laura); grandchildren, Cassidy (Josh) Barnum, Lofton (Alexandra), Chloe, Mitchell (Rayna), Emma; great-grandchildren, Lilly & Jackson Barnum; brother, John (Pricilla); sister, Joyce (Scott) Heise; and many nieces and nephews.
This hard working, wonderful man was beloved and respected by all who knew him. An army veteran serving domestically between Korea and Vietnam, he earned his Masters in Chemistry from RIT in evening studies while starting a family and beginning what became a 36-year career at Eastman Kodak (where he was granted 3 patents… and where he walked 3 miles to/from work almost every day!). After retiring, he became a school bus driver in what evolved into a 17-year dedication. All the while, Ray served tirelessly in multiple capacities as a lifelong member of the former Reformation Lutheran Church. He loved and supported his boys in whatever endeavor they participated in and this love was particularly demonstrated daily in the physical investment that he, and our mother, poured into raising our brother Mark whose physical disability from Cerebral Palsy meant that his every need was taken care of by them.
Dad became a skilled carpenter in the army, loved to tinker, play cards and had a quick and beautifully quirky wit. He will be missed, though his essence lives on through us. We are comforted by faith that he has now joined the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and is again with his parents Ernest Raymond Anderson and Evelyn Hope Anderson who preceded him.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 6 Empire Blvd., Rochester, NY 14609, on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 10am-11am, with a service to immediately follow. Burial will be held at White Haven Memorial Park.
Please consider contributions to Ability Partners Foundation (to be used for CP Rochester) or Lifetime Assistance Foundation, Inc. in lieu of any flowers. He will be interned at White Haven Cemetery.
