Our Dad was born in The Netherlands in 1924 making him 96 years old. As a young man during World War II he was taken to Germany as a forced laborer until the end of the war. On his return he became a policeman in Breda and Noorwijk, like his father.
In 1957 he took his young family (wife & two daughters, age 3 and 7) to live in America. No money, no job, but determined to live the American dream!
Shortly after arrival he got an entry level job at Mohawk Airlines as a baggage handler in Utica, NY then quickly was promoted to customer service manager in Rome, NY (1959). Mohawk merged with Allegheny, which merged with US Air then American Airlines. Dad stayed with them more than 32 years and transferred to Utica, Poughkeepsie, Providence (RI), Boston, Rochester, Buffalo & Birmingham. After retirement, Mom and Dad moved to Venice Fl. for 21 years. They then moved back to the Rochester area 10 years ago.
He loved traveling, skiing, golfing and ball room dancing.
HE ACHIEVED HIS GOAL OF LIVING THE AMERICAN DREAM !
We are proud and honored to be his daughters and want to share his story so you will know a little, as he is in the last chapter of a life well lived.
