Rochester, New York: Fred Thomas Pompeii, age 84 died Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at his home in the presence of his family. He was predeceased by his infant son, Gerard; his parents, Rocco and Julia Pompeii; sisters, Rose Canny, Carmella Delello and Antoinette Pompeii; brothers, Thomas, John and Phillip. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Margherita; children, Celeste (David) Mercandetti, Monica Pompeii, Mark Pompeii, Matthew Pompeii, Theresa Bogart of Atlanta, GA., Paul Pompeii, Peter Pompeii; grandchildren, Adam (Sonja) Mercandetti, Alaina Mercandetti (fiance Jeff Snell), Erica Bogart of Atlanta, GA.; great-grandchildren, Niclas and Tino; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fred was a consummate family man with a deep love of the Catholic Faith. He had a number of life-long creative pursuits including gardening, carpentry chess and wine-making. A retiree of the Gannett Newspaper, he was a Photo Engraver and Freelance Photographer. He was a United States Army Air Corp. Veteran WW II Era 1942-1945.
There will be no prior calling hours. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 28th at 11 AM Blessed Sacrament Church, 534 Oxford St., Rochester, NY 14607. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery with full Military Honors. To share a memory or to leave a condolence please visit:
