Flaherty, Gail P. (Robinson)
Greece: December 15, 2009 at age 71. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Harry; sons, Michael, Jeffrey and Scott; sister-in-law, Brenna Flaherty; nieces, nephew and cousins; special friends, Barbara Macris, Line Hoevik, Fred Remus, Doug Hausner; and many people around the world who called her "Mom".
Gail was a warm, loving, strong woman who thrived on helping others, be they her family, friends, strangers, or even stray animals. She was never happy sitting still, but preferred working on varied craft projects, helping at her sons' schools, working at a daycare school, volunteering with literacy volunteers, and her Heritage Antiques business. Her home was not only comfortable for her family, but a warm, welcoming space for all her son's friends at any time, day or night.
For over a decade she hosted and placed dozens of foreign exchange students with families in New York and North Carolina, helping them to learn and grow during their stay in the U.S., and forming life-long bonds which span the world. She formed an especially strong , loving bond with Line Hoevik, whom she called her "Norwegian daughter", and Line's adorable children who call Gail and her husband Harry "Grandma and Grandpa."
All who knew Gail will remember her beautiful smile, twinkling eyes, and thought-provoking conversations. Though dimmed by pain in her later years, she never lost her indomitable spirit or loving heart. She will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of having her in their lives, especially her husband and sons and her lifetime best friend Barbara Macris. The fact that she is finally free of the pain she suffered in her last years is a great comfort to all who knew and cared about Gail. We will miss her, never forget her, and always love her.
