George E. Mancuso Jr.

Rochester-

George Eugene Mancuso Jr., 89, died surrounded by love on June 27, 2024. Predeceased by his wife of 56 years Marsha Shute of Wallingford CT, and his son George. Survived by his 8 children, 4 born to him and 4 adopted from various countries Georgette Hoffman (George), Noel Mancuso, Glenn Mancuso (Lisa), Monica Mancuso, Camille Mancuso (Brian), Gabrielle Sears (Tony), Galina Mancuso, Cameron Mancuso, also by his 9 grandchildren – Joshua & Allyce Hoffman, Kyle Mancuso, Hunter, Ethan & Lily Krienke, Raina & Leland Sears, and William McIntyre.

He served in the Military despite being against the wars
-US Marine Corps Reserve (served two years while in high school and four years in college)
-Naval Aviation Officer candidate/Floyd Bennett Airfield
-US Army (served two years, discharged in 1962, credited with 8 years of service)

Very involved and extremely proud of his year-round competitive swimmers in which during an 18-year span involved nightly shuffling to practices and weekends away at competitions and 4 children of which had multi-school records and when the last swim cap and goggles were hung up, he was eager for a new generation of grandkids to get involved.

With more time on his hands, he became involved in politics and ran for County Legislature where he was endorsed by the Democratic, Working Families and Independent party having received the endorsement from Democrat & Chronicle and City newspaper. Although he lost the election because the town of Chili was predominately Republican, the paper indicated the race was the most interesting and competitive.

He very proudly worked for the Rochester City School District for 30 years, 6 years served as Teacher and the other 24 as a building administrator as Principal and Vice Principal. Worked for 25 years in the same building, which was uncommon but due to outstanding relationships with his teaching staff and the tremendous support of the parents and community. Well-liked by his students who constantly wanted to have lunch with him. Stayed so long due to the confidence and support of those constituencies. When he retired the parents, the staff, the community and the student body asked the art teacher to paint a portrait that was then presented at assembly and hung in the auditorium for a number of years. Post retirement he worked another 10 years as a substitute for building administrators, often 2-3 days weekly and sometimes for longer durations. During several weeks at a building for an absent Principle the staff sent him a card with all their signatures indicating how pleased they were and how supportive they felt that he created a good environment for them.

He was also a supporter and contributor to the A.C.L.U, the NAACP, Emily’s List, Americans United for the Separation of Church & State and Planned Parenthood.

Trained as a history teacher very knowledgeable about American and European history. He always expressed the only two justified wars this country fought were WWII and the Civil War on the northern side. All others he felt were unjustified and attributed to civilian casualties.

Continued in death a strong supporter to civil rights and as proud Democrat supported the 1964 Civil Rights Act ending lynching, Jim Crow Laws and Segregation in the south even though the other party were in opposition. He was a strong supporter for LGBT rights and their right to marry and their right to not be discriminated against. Support of the opposition party attempting to discriminate against their civil rights left him feeling disheartened.

Calling Hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals (westside), 2636 Ridgeway Avenue Rochester, NY 14626 on Tuesday, July 9th from 4:00 PM- 6:00. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher’s Church, 3350 Union St. North Chili, NY 14514 on Wednesday July 10 at 11am. Interment to follow at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Rd, Pittsford, NY 14534
