GREECE- George A. Mathis Jr., 72, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019.
George was born in Rochester, NY on May 26, 1946 to the late George and Lois Mathis. George served his country honorably in the United States Navy during Vietnam. On August 7, 1971 George married the love of his life, Janet. They were married for 47 years and together they raised two daughters. George will be remembered for his love of camping, fishing, singing, gardening, and spending time with his grandkids. His passion in life was music.
George is predeceased by his sister, Margaret Mary (Gary) Stewart, and his nephew, Daniel Stewart.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet, his daughters, Michelle (Robert) Carmical, and Donna (Jeremy) Schlegel, his sister, Sr. Anne Marie Mathis, his six grandkids(with one on the way!), Austin, Elizabeth, Aubrey, Analiese, Matthew, and Ansell, his nieces, Shelly (Todd) Stauring, and Sandy (Tom) Dean, his nephew, David (Christine) Stewart, and many cousins, family and dear friends.
Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 6 Empire Blvd., Rochester, NY 14609, on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 4492 Lake Ave, Rochester, NY 14612, on Friday, May 10, 2019 at 12:00pm. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery, Swormville, NY.
