Gerald M. Hitchcock

August 14, 1935 — February 14, 2022

GREECE- Gerald (Jerry) M. Hitchcock passed away peacefully with his family by his side at St. Ann's on Monday, February 14, 2022. He was 86 years old. He was born August 14, 1935, in Akron NY., son of the Floyd and Iva Cook Hitchcock. He graduated from Akron Central School in 1953 and attended Erie County Tech where he studied draftsmanship. Following completion of his degree, he proudly served our country as a member of the 237th Engineer Battalion, United States Army stationed in Heilbronn, Germany.

While on military leave, Jerry met Joyce Neeland Hitchcock at the Alden roller rink, followed by many visits to the local Neeland's dairy where Joyce served him ice cream. Jerry and Joyce married on October 1, 1960. They resided in Akron for six years and then moved to Greece, NY in 1967, where they raised their five children. Jerry is a retiree of the Eastman Kodak Company. To the amazement of all, he held a perfect attendance record never missing a single day in his 25 + year career.

Jerry had a strong faith and was a member of Hope Lutheran Church.

Jerry was an avid woodworker and could often be found in his workshop carving decoys, birds, designing puzzles, and many other projects. He was a member of the Genesee Valley Wood Carvers Club and entered some of his works in the world championship wildfowl carving competition, crafting award-winning sculptures.

Jerry's greatest joy was spending time with his family, attending his children's and grandchildren's various sporting events, activities, and camping trips.

On a lighter side, he loved playing backyard games, his favorite was croquet. He had to be watched closely as he was known to "accidently" move the ball when it was not his turn. He also had a passion for cars, dogs, and all forms of sweets… especially ice cream sundaes. Jerry and Joyce were able to create many memories while traveling and touring.

Papa had a wonderful sense of humor, incredible heart, and will be remembered as a great man, husband, father, and grandfather.
Jerry is survived by a family who loved and adored him. Predeceased by his parents, Floyd and Iva Hitchcock; sister Doris (Robert) Patton; son, David Hitchcock. Survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Joyce (Neeland) Hitchcock; brother Floyd (Vonnie) Hitchcock Jr.; son Bryan (Kelly) Hitchcock, daughter Susan (John) Fronius, son Dean (Tracy Argento) Hitchcock, daughter Jane (Dan Hurley) Prevost; grandchildren, TJ Fronius, Jessica (Steve) Pringle, Carli (Chris) Bartlett, Melissa (Ryan) Parsons, Ryan Prevost, Dylan Hitchcock, Lauren Prevost, Hannah Hitchcock, Meghan Hurley, Sydney Hitchcock, Jack Hitchcock; exchange student son Magnus Tidbeck; childhood friend, John Marshall; and nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. Private family services will he held at a later date.

Jerry and Joyce over the years took many bike rides and enjoyed picnics at Braddock Bay Park in the town of Greece. It is their wish that in remembrance of Jerry, contributions be made to the Town of Greece Parks Department for park improvements in the form of a memorial bench in his name.
