Gertrude "Trudy" Weldner passed away peacefully in Rochester, New York on April 10th, 2022 at the age of 74. She is survived by her three children: Rob (Nancy) Weldner, Trish (Michael McDonald) Musto, and Rick (Amy) Weldner, her loving brother Frank (Donle) Farsace, her nephew Brian Farsace and her niece Kristina Walters, as well as cousins Laura and Ed Inzana, Virginia Pilato, Mary Tompkins, and Deborah Vazzana.
Trudy was a beloved Mother and friend, a devout Christian, and a shining beacon of inspiration to friends, family, and strangers alike. She spent much of her time counseling others and spreading the word of Christ. Her entire life was focused on giving, and helping others. She did a wonderful job raising three children as a single Mom while balancing a career as a legal secretary at Chamberlain D'Amanda for more than 20 years. Afterwards she cared for her Mother, Gertrude Covey, for many years.
Trudy was the "neighborhood Mom" while we kids were growing up, and she was known for feeding the neighbors' kids old school Italian pasta and sauce. There were never leftovers. The kids got second and third helpings until all the food was gone.
Trudy was almost always smiling and happy, despite various pains and medical ailments she dealt with most of her life. She always downplayed the pain and would say her shoulder was just a "little cranky" if you had any concerns, so she could instead help you with your problems. Her loving heart and powerful spirit was more than enough to calm the fears and woes of friends and family. We all leaned on Mom for help more than we cared to admit when she should have been the one leaning on us.
We will all miss Mom far more than any words can convey. We have put a letter together for Mom below:
Dear Mom,
Your prayers were answered. God listened as you knew he would. No longer will you have to wait for Jesus to come back; instead you were called home to be by his side. He called you home, not to deprive us of you, or to sadden us with your passing. He summoned you to give you the new body you deserve and to give you peace. When we meet again you'll be ready to receive us, to let us know everything has always been okay. You offered security when we were kids, and continued when we navigated grown-up waters.
You raised us to the best of your abilities and circumstances, always proud of us no matter how crazy we made you. You adapted to tumultuous times and overcame them. You committed your life to us, to Gram, and to helping others in the face of your own tribulations. You endured, then you endured some more. While you rarely caught an obvious break, you were always blessed by God answering your prayers.
We will miss you dearly, Mom. We are grateful for you, now and always. Your Earthly body may not be with us, but your spirit and your soul will forever occupy our hearts and minds. Your legacy will thrive, living on through us and those you held dear. We will memorialize you with stories, fond thoughts, and reminders like giant ice cream cones. You will continue to always be here. It will just be a different way of exchanging "I love you's".
Mom, our sadness is a tribute to you and the impact you had on our lives. Our tears are "the messengers of overwhelming grief and unspeakable love."
Mom, your work is done. It's time for rest. We're in God's hands now.
With eternal love from your grateful kids,
Rob, Trish, and Rick
