With unfathomable sorrow, we share that Gill Castle passed away on the evening of March 9, 2025. He was at home surrounded by his family in a place of love and peace. Gill was devoted to and deeply loved his wife Amy, children Paige (Chris Bechle), Tate (Sarah Casto) and Grant, and his Old English Sheepdogs Maisy, Winston and Marcia, and Peggy.
He will be remembered for his kindness and gentle nature by the family who loved him – Kathy and Steve Xenias, Dan and Carol Schwab, Marilyn Schwab, Tom Schwab, his many beloved nieces and nephews and their spouses and children, and by his cousins, friends, neighbors and coworkers.
Gill’s life was filled with love and laughter, but there were also some challenging times where he showed exceptional courage and strength: joining the U.S. Marine Corps and reaching the rank of Sergeant; switching careers to earn his engineering degree while raising a young family; and training for triathlons and completing 16 marathons. His greatest challenge, however, was fighting an extremely rare lung disease for over 12 years with quiet, unfaltering resolve. Even as he faced insurmountable odds, he continued to care for, be there for, and amuse his loved ones. He was quick to share handy household tips, a reassuring word, or a one-line zinger.
If you knew Gill, whether from seeing him running on the canal path, working with him in telecommunications, or waving as he and Amy rode their tandem bike through Fairport or sat on their front porch, please remember him for his smile and kind heart. We can honor him by living as he lived, with compassion and strength, always finding the positives.
To celebrate this amazing man, an open house will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, from 1:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Lion’s Den in Potter Park (53 West Church St, Fairport 14450). The park is a special place where Gill spent many days entertaining his children on the playground, playing tennis with Amy, and throwing a ball with Maisy.
The family is immensely grateful to those who helped bring Gill home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to charities whose mission’s reflect Gill's passions see below.
