Rochester - Passed away peacefully on February 4, 2022 at age 89.
Giovanni "John" Bovenzi was born in Pignataro Maggiore, a small town approximately 40 miles north of Naples, on February 18, 1932. He was the eldest of nine children and spent much of his youth working on his parents' farm just outside of town. His work ethic was formed at an early age and the fruits of his labor made for a better living for his younger siblings. He was a soldier in the Italian army where he also played soccer. John married the love of his life, Candida, and they settled in Pignataro Maggiore before emigrating to the United States in 1961. John had three children; Carmela was born in Italy and his two sons, George and Salvatore (Sam), were born in the United States. John's strong work ethic continued as he consistently worked two jobs most of his life. He had a long career at Marlette Plating and also spent a few years at Ragu Packing. John completed his career at Delco Products where he retired in 1997. After retirement, John dedicated his life to help raising his grandchildren who he absolutely adored. Throughout his life, John enjoyed numerous hobbies including gardening, wine making, visiting with his Italian countrymen, and playing bocce at Edgerton Park. He is dearly missed by friends and family. John's family would like to offer sincere thanks and appreciation to the third floor staff at Kirkhaven Nursing Home for the compassionate care they've provided to both John and his wife, Candida.
