94, died peacefully on September 3, 2023. Born November 16, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Henry and Beatrice Merzke. Living her whole life in the Rochester area, she was devoted to her family and God. Her kindness and love will be remembered by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Herbert A. Schafer (2020), sister Betty; daughters, Sharon, Kathy; granddaughter, Kathleen. Survived by her daughter, Esther Schroeder; son, Todd (Karen) Schafer; grandchildren, Karen (David) Burns, Jason (Alison) Tuff, Kimberly Schroeder, Kristina (William) Freiberg, Scott (Karen) Schroeder, Jessica (Christopher) Willis, Jacqueline (Alexander) Gagne, Jillian Schafer; 19 great-grandchildren and 7 great great-grandchildren.
At her wish, a celebration of life for both Gladys and Herbert Schafer will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 11 AM at the Fairport Baptist Home Chapel, 4646 Nine Mile Point Road in Fairport, NY. Reception to follow in the McKnight room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Bible Society.
