Rochester: July 18, 1930 - August 2, 2010. Native of Bath, N.Y. Predeceased by her parents, Allen and Laura Durnian Towner; sisters, Sandra T. Martin and Margo T. Seager. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald; son, Allen (Edith) Parry of Virginia; daughters, Laural (Joseph) Jacobs of Indiana and Linda Woodrow of Connecticut; grandchildren, Brendan and Kaitlyn Parry, Laura, Heather, Joseph, and Samantha Jacobs, David Woodrow; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; sister-in-law, Helen P. Heath of Kent, N.Y.; brothers-in-law, William (June) Parry, M.D. of Oklahoma, David Seager and Fred Martin of Bath, N.Y.; special friends, Audrey Saile White and John and Joline Hamlin of Rochester; and the loving and caring staff in the Friendship One West Unit at Monroe Community Hospital.
She was a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Nursing, a former member of the Nursing Staff at Strong Memorial Hospital, and for 18 years was the Office Nurse for Priscilla L. Cummings, M.D. For 30 years she was the volunteer Membership Clerk for the 19th Ward Community Association and is a Charter Member of the Association's Hall of Fame.
Friends may call on Thursday 5:30-9:00 PM at the New Comer Funeral Home, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue, where her Funeral Service will be held Friday at 12 Noon. Interment, Mt. Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to U of R School of Nursing, 601 Elmwood Avenue (14642), the 19th Ward Community Association, 216 Thurston Road (14619) or the Monroe Community Hospital Foundation, 435 East Henrietta Road (14620) in Gretchen's memory.
