Irondequoit: August 14, 2023 at the age of 91.
Predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Gretchen Louise (Alberty) Schindler; parents, Harold Joseph Schindler and Altay Elizabeth (Knight) Schindler; brothers, Robert, David, John and Richard, and sister Nancy.
Survived by his son David G. (Ronay LeBlanc) and daughters Amy Anderson (Blair), Janet Wilcox (Rick), and Julie Giron (Mike); along with 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Hal met Gretchen at school in Troy, NY and she was the center of his life from that point forward. Hal loved spending time with his family more than anything.
Hal was born and raised in Rome, NY. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation he enlisted in the Army and was a Korean war era veteran. He later received his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester. He spent most of his career working for Eastman Kodak Co. in Rochester, NY and was a very proud employee of Kodak. He was a devoted member of Summerville Presbyterian Church for the last 59 years and held numerous positions within the church. Hal also had a great love for the Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Hal was an outstanding woodworker and made numerous beautiful furniture pieces for "Gretchie". Over the years Hal enjoyed many fishing trips with fellow Kodakers, friends and family.
His memorial service will be held on Saturday August 19, at 1:00pm at Summerville Presbyterian Church, 4845 St. Paul blvd. Interment private, Irondequoit Cemetery.
