Every day Harry Flaherty tried to make someone smile or laugh.
It could be on the phone, it could be in the line at the grocery store; wherever he was, his goal was to try and bring a moment of joy to someone's day.
When his sons would talk to Harry, he would usually mention a moment in the day when he thought he made someone's day better.
Harry had suffered so much loss and grief early in his life. Some people might have chosen to be angry and spiteful, Harry chose a path of love and kindness, bringing joy to all he knew.
When he met Gail Robinson, who also had some challenges in her youth, they resolved to create the family they always wished they had themselves.
As a loving couple for 50 years with their 3 boys, they succeeded in every way. Harry and Gail as a team were quite a pair, always willing to engage with people. His wife Gail began placing exchanges students in the mid 80's along with hosting some at their home, and that opened them up to travel and experiences throughout Europe. He and Gail formed an especially strong bond with Line Høvik, who they called their "Norwegian daughter" and Line's wonderful children Anette and Albert, who call Harry "Grandpa."
Harry is everything a good father should be; kind, loving, accepting and understanding. His love for his family was immense and he was never afraid to show his love to his family.
Harry worked for Champion Sportswear for 25 years, which meant his sons got some good gear over the years.
In later years after Gail passed, Harry volunteered with AARP doing taxes and he found great rewards in volunteering at the TCC at Unity Hospital.
Harry is a proud Aquinas and St. John Fisher alum, one of the first Fisher graduating classes.
Harry is predeceased by his wife Gail Flaherty(Robinson), and brother Richard.
He is survived by his sons Michael (Fred Remus), Jeff, and Scott (Douglas Hausner), as well as his nephew and nieces, and special mention to his dear friends Barbara and Phil Macris.
We will miss him, never forget him and always love him.
