Harry S. Stathe

Harry S.Stathe of Rochester New York passed away peacefully on 9/1/16 with his beloved wife Olympia by his side. Harry was born on 6/23/28, the first child of Greek immigrants. He and sisters grew up in Rochester, where they helped their father in running his restaurant. After attending the Manlius Military Academy on a scholarship, he was awarded a scholarship to attend the University of Rochester to play football and baseball. There he excelled in both academics and athletics, and he was eventually inducted into the University of Rochester Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. Upon graduation ,he proudly served his country during the Korean War, and soon after returning home, he was married and had two daughters.

Harry worked as a manager for Eastman Kodak for 30 years. He served as President of the Greek Orthodox Church for many years, and resided in the Rochester area for the entirety of his life. In 1980 he married Olympia Carafos, and soon after they traveled to their shared homeland of Greece. Harry was a beloved father and Papu and enjoyed nothing more than being with his family. His sense of humor and wit were legendary, and he was a comforting figure to everyone he loved.

Harry is survived by his wife of 36 years Olympia; his sisters Sophia Stathe and Katherine Balta; his daughter Stephanie and her husband Steven Parkes, his daughter Stasia and her husband Angelo Moskovis; his step-children Andy Carafos and his wife Patricia, Cynthia Gates, George Carafos and his wife Joan; his grandchildren Peter, Kassandra (Tucker Matheson), Alexander, Matthew, Alexandra (Jim) Dozet, and Jay ( Charlotte Thurston), and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Alexandra and Steven Stathe, his brother-in-law Ted Balta, and his grandson David.

Funeral to be held Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 10:30 am. Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 962 East Avenue, Rochester New York. Interment White Haven Cemetery.
