She attended Sacred Heart Academy and Nazareth Academy, where she made lifelong friends, meeting once a month with them over the past 80 years. Deep friendships also continued with Kodak colleagues, who met frequently for lunch and conversation. She enjoyed swimming and riding her horse, "Gypsy Queen". She married William Daly Powers in 1935. Together they raised four children.

Besides family and friendships, Helen enjoyed big band music, the theater, and traveling in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. She was an excellent dancer and laughed often in telling and listening to stories. She was quick to compliment everyone. She cheerfully devoted her time and her love to her four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was a marvelous cook (goulash and meatloaf), and baker (pineapple upside-down cake and apple pie).
