Helen Marie Smith

Helen M. Smith, aged 73, passed away on Wednesday, July 17th at age 73. She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Grace VerWulst. Helen is survived by her devoted husband Clair, her loving children Kevin (Kristina), Brian, and Tina (James) Wise, and her cherished grandchildren Madelyn, Bella, Christopher, and Benjamin.

She is also survived by her siblings Betty Yerico, Mary (Vince) Guarino, John (Susan) VerWulst, and Kathleen (Randall) Dalheim, along with sister-in-law Vada Murphy, brother-in-law Keith (Sandra) Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 25th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 2636 Ridgeway Ave, where a service in memory of Helen will follow at 7:00 PM. Interment will take place on Friday, July 26th at 11:00 AM at Kendall-Beechwood Cemetery.

Helen's life was marked by her deep love for her family, of whom she was immensely proud. She found great joy in her children and grandchildren, who brought her constant happiness.

Helen had a remarkable talent for gardening and was known for her green thumb, nurturing plants with great care. She was able to truly live out her passion for "all things green" through owning and operating Smiths Greenhouse in Kendall with her husband Clair from 1977 to 2005.

She was also an exceptional baker, generously sharing her delicious creations with those around her.

Raised with a strong work ethic from her early days on a farm, Helen was known for her tireless dedication and industrious spirit. She was always active and on the move, rarely seen sitting idle. Her thoughtfulness and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving a lasting impression of warmth and generosity.

Helen will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her family and friends.
