Ida Kocsis passed away peacefully January 29, 2025, at the age of 92.
She was born in Felsőgalla, Tatabánya, Hungary, on October 19, 1932, to Sándor and Borbála (née Narai) Csatári. Her parents and five sisters preceded her in death. Her husband Sándor Kocsis also preceded her in death.
Ida escaped to the United States in December 1956, during the Hungarian Revolution. She lived the rest of her life in Rochester, retiring from Rochester Products. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, reading, and traveling. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Ida became a United States citizen so she could fully participate in democracy by exercising her right to vote. She also returned to school and graduated with a GED diploma.
Ida is survived by daughters Judith Kocsis, Ida (David) DeFord-Salisbury, and Dorothy (David) Joris; granddaughters Michelle (Christopher) Huber, Melissa (Dana) Bowers, and Charlene Peacock; nieces, Irene Manahan, who was like a sister, and Barbara Vidacs; as well as several great-nieces and a great-nephew. She was very proud of her great-grandsons, Christopher and Owen Huber and Graham Johnson. Ida was a loving, kind woman who had many friends. Her family will miss her very much.
A private service will be held for family.
