ROCHESTER - Died peacefully Thursday, August 23rd at the New York State Veterans Home in Batavia, NY. He was 95 years old. A WWll veteran, Irving fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received two Purple Hearts for his service. In 2013, he participated in an Honor Flight for Veterans where he met Senator Bob Dole. Irving was also a retired postal carrier. Irving was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, their daughter, Robin, and son, Keith, and also by his second wife, Joyce. He is survived by his sister, Marlene Whitmore (Jack); daughters, Dianne Kabes (Don), Donna Miller (Rick), and Wanda Matties (Johnny Taylor); son, Irving Matties (Linda), his five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Irving is well-loved and sorely missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue at 11 am on Sunday, September 9, 2018.
