James R. Austin died on December 9th, 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Jim took an early retirement from RIT, where he served as Program Coordinator then
Assistant Director in the Office of Cooperative Education & Career Service.
He also taught for the Master's Degree Program in Career and Human Resource Development.
Jim enjoyed all forms of communication. He was an accomplished public speaker and writer.
He enjoyed playing the piano & guitar & could be counted on to offer humor at any social gathering.
Jim is predeceased by his parents, Gerard and Rita (Tierney) Austin, and niece Kathryn Michele Austin.
He is survived by his brother & sister in law Richard & Peg (Hart) Austin, sister Mary Austin &
his sister & brother in law Theresa Austin & Bill Gibaud. Also survived by his nephews, Thomas & Charles,
their spouses and children; & many Austin and Tierney relatives.
A celebration of his life is being held in Massachusetts on July 29 th which would have been his 75th birthday.
Having researched the Austin genealogy, it is fitting that his remembrance will take place just miles from Charlestown where Richard Austin
and his family arrived from Bishopstocke, England in 1638.
A 7:00 AM Mass is being celebrated in Rochester on this day at St. John the Evangelist Church, Peace of Christ Parish which was the church his
grandparents worshipped in and were buried from.
