James Arthur Newton, 61, of Rochester, NY passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, April 15, 2023.
Jim was born in Rochester, NY, he was the son of Robert Charles Newton and Barbara Franc Duffy. Jim attended Gates Chili High School graduating in 1979. Jim retired from the City of Rochester Environmental Department in 2021 after 20 years of service.
Jim proudly served as a member of the Rochester District Umpire Association umpiring local high school and summer league baseball games. Jim earned the 2022 Umpire of the year award from the association.
Jim was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed nights out at Rochester Red Wings, Rochester Amerks, Buffalo Sabres and even RIT hockey games. He enjoyed a nice morning round of golf during the summer months. And most importantly you wouldn't find Jim out without proudly displaying his Kansas City Chiefs sportswear.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Alyssa Altobelli and his pride and joy Granddaughter Morgan Altobelli; his mother Barbara Duffy; his brother Robert Newton (Kathy) and sister Lori FitzSimons (Bill); many nieces and nephews as well as now a few great nieces and great nephews, too.
Friends may call Wednesday 4-6 pm April 26, 2023 at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Ave. (west of Long Pond Rd.) Funeral services are private.
