The family would like to acknowledge the special care provided by Dad's team of aides, led by Tina Bianca.

Dad exemplified The Greatest Generation. Growing up in the Depression, he excelled in athletics, academics and music at East High. He continued these endeavors after matriculating at Houghton College. Dad then enlisted in the US Army in 1942, serving in the Pacific theater. After separation from the service he completed his education at Houghton. Following graduation in 1947, Jim taught history and coached basketball at Webster Central High School. Around 1950 Dad joined the Color Print and Processing Division of Eastman Kodak where he was employed for over 40 years, rising from the mailroom to the eventual role of CPP Assistant Manager.

Dad's twin loves were his God and his family. A devout student of the Word, he taught bible classes at Brighton Community and Browncroft Community Churches throughout most of his life. His ability to explain God's truths, provide spiritual counsel and demonstrate strong Christian manhood influenced the lives of generations. Boards at Brighton and Youth for Christ benefited from his sound wisdom.

Christian leadership permeated Jim's home life. Loving and supportive husband of Peg, Dad raised his "basketball team" of boys in Webster. All of his sons are actively engaged in serving the Lord in preaching, youth or music ministry. Dad's 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren received his loving touch but, more importantly his fervent prayers. Clearly Jim Smith was the type of father that God had in mind.

A public celebration of Dad's life will be held at Browncroft Community Church, Penfield on Sunday, March 26th at 2 pm.
