James A. Strauss

James A Strauss passed on Monday, November 14, 2022, at the age of 99.

Jim was the youngest child of the late Adolph and Clara Strauss and was predeceased by his wife Dorcas and siblings Ken (Esther) Strauss, Carl (Marion) Strauss and Ruth (Leeman) Baize.

He is survived by his sons James W. (Jennifer) Strauss and Timothy A. (Cyndie) Strauss; grandchildren Trevor (Stacie) Strauss, Elisha (Pete) Berg, Leah (Donnie) Green and Michael (Jennifer) Palos; and great grandchildren Madisyn, Angel, Andrew, Rylie, Olivia, Austin, Reagan, Rebecca and William.

A graduate of Franklin High School, he served in the US Navy in World War II, making torpedoes for submarines. During this time, he married Dorcas. Upon separation from the service, Jim worked at several jobs while starting his family.

In 1955, Jim and Dorcas purchased a house at 626 Flynn Road, where they raised their sons. Dorcas passed away on 10/23/93, and Jim remained in that house until moving into Fleming Point senior citizen housing in the last two years.

From a young age Jim was devoted to serving God, both at Bethel Full Gospel Church and later at Greece Assembly of God. He provided much service and made lifelong friends.

Jim fulfilled a boyhood dream when he joined the Lakeshore Fire Department as a volunteer, serving 60 years. He is one of three life members enshrined in the Lakeshore Fire Department Wall of Fame. He served in many positions, primarily as Treasurer and Chaplain. He was blessed with many long friendships.

In the late 1950's, Jim joined the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, working first at the Monroe County Penitentiary and later at the Monroe County Jail downtown. He retired after 20 years of service.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Greece Assembly of God Church, 750 Long Pond Road, Rochester, on Saturday, December 10, at 11 am, followed by a luncheon at the church. Private interment at Riverside Cemetery.
