Jane Elizabeth Doyle

July 28, 1924 — March 7, 2020

Rochester - Passed away on March 7, 2020 at the age of 95.

Predeceased by her parents, Floyd & Mary Josephine Stephens; brother, John Stephens.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Pearl, Barbara (Jeffrey) Gutterman, Maureen (Timothy) Herbstsommer, & Fran (Wilbert Major) Doyle; grandchildren, Shawn (Joelle) Laffin, Adam (Rashmi Shah) Gutterman, Keith (Ashley Stitt) Gutterman, Danielle (John) Cane, & William Doyle; great-grandchildren, Kyle & Cole Laffin, Aarav Gutterman, Seth & Estelle Gutterman, Liam, Ella, & Emilia Cane; sister, Mary Steinkirchner; cousins, Carol & Mary; many nieces & nephews.

Mom grew up in the 19th Ward. After graduating from West High School, she went on to get her medical secretarial degree at the School of Commerce. She started out as a lab technician working on the Manhattan Project during World War II. Mom worked for several area physicians, continuing to receive a W-2 until the age of 93. She was an amazing homemaker; raising her children, cooking, baking, canning, sewing clothes, draperies, and slipcovers. One of her favorite activities was baking and sending cookies and bread to her children and grandchildren near and far. Mom enjoyed reading, playing Scrabble, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and long, laughter-filled telephone conversations with her sister, Mary. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought their "Gram-o" endless joy. Throughout her life Mom had a positive attitude, never complaining, never asking for anything, but always willing to do for and give to everyone else. She maintained a great sense of humor until the end. We were blessed to have her as our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

We would like to thank the staff at The Jewish Home and Lifetime Care for their loving care and support.
