Jean S Parshall

September 27, 1941 — February 16, 2023

Brighton, NY

Jean S. Parshall, age 82 of Rochester, NY passed away peacefully at home from complications due to dementia on Thursday, February 16, 2023 with family & caretakers at her side.

Jean was born September 27, 1941 in Jamestown, NY to the late Kenneth and Jeanette Sampson. As a child, Jean enjoyed spending time with her mother in the kitchen where she was taught traditional Swedish cooking and developed a passion for baking. Jean and her mother had a bond like no other. As a young girl, Jean was full of creativity and talent. Her love for playing the piano also blossomed a love for classical music. She is known to have played daily for hours at a time developing her skills as a classical pianist. She went on to study at the Eastman School of Music and finished her master's degree at SUNY Brockport.

As a professional, Jean is a retiree of the City of Rochester School District where she fulfilled such roles as teacher, principal and administrator. Her most beloved role was as an administrator at the original School of the Performing Arts at Monroe where many for her welcoming smile fondly remember Jean as she stood atop the stairs each morning to welcome her students.

In the early 80's, Jean married the love of her life Rodney L Parshall. Rod and Jean spent almost two decades in an exceptionally successful and loving marriage. The two enjoyed a robust social life, spending time at their lake home together and creating treasured memories with family and friends at their family home in Brighton. Rod's passing in 2001 was an extremely difficult time for Jean. She would spend the remaining days of her very private life amidst her meticulously maintained gardens, or in her kitchen where there could always be found a casserole or freshly baked loaf of banana bread, or just sitting quietly perfecting her own personal works of art which are displayed all around her home. She greatly enjoyed sharing the memories that went along with each item with anyone who would listen.

When not fussing at or over her beloved Renee, the inseparable pair spent time on the road going antiquing, shopping out to eat and would often be distracted by something sparkly that "razzle dazzled" them at a random jewelry store along their way. Jean's well-developed eye for fine art and exquisite antiques can be seen throughout her home.

A legacy of love is survived by her beloved Renee C. White, grandchildren Danny (Tianna) Floyd, Danisha (Carmelo) Santiago, William (Kenyetta) Floyd, Tyshawn Washington and two great grandchildren, Kenzie and William Jr. She also has one sibling, Ralph Sampson of AZ.
