Jean was born in Rochester, NY and attended St. Augustine's school and Our Lady of Mercy High school. In High School, she worked in the box office of a local movie theatre (That apple didn't fall far from the tree for at least 3 generations!). Jean was a switchboard operator and later worked for Aetna Insurance until she married Jackie Vickers and began raising a family. She started working in the office at Charlotte Appliances in the late 60s while her kids were in school, retiring from there in the early 90s.
Jean loved books and travel. A good mystery, adventure, or historical/time travel romance was always within reach. Local camping trips with groups of friends, and family camping in Myrtle Beach were frequent events. Favorite trips included traveling cross country and north to Alaska, a cruise from the East Coast to the West Coast through the Panama Canal, and spending a week exploring Iceland.
Jean's most cherished moments were anytime spent with her grandchildren or great grand children. She could often be seen sitting on the floor building a castle, garage, or a Lego car. If not playing, someone was getting cuddle time and a back scratch or backrub. Of course, they all returned the favor!
There was always an animal (usually plural!) in Jean's house. From her childhood dog Rex, to Shadow, Ghost and Jinx, the many pets over the years knew where to go for a scratch behind the ears. Jean was always sharing posts about lost/missing dogs on social media. Please donate to Lollypop Farm in her name if you are able.
Jean's family would like to send a special word of thanks to all the wonderful staff at Elderwood of Lakeside at Brockport for the gentle, loving care and support given to our mother and all of us.
