Joan was a devoted mother, spouse and community member. Prior to being diagnosed with dementia, her energy was boundless. She was guided by her faith. Whether it was sailing across the Atlantic Ocean with her husband or standing up for social justice, Joan was fearless. Joan served as a hospital chaplain until the age of 82. In prior years, after earning her bachelor's degree in social work, as a mother of three, Joan worked in many capacities, all with the common goal of improving her community and lifting others up. She managed to do this while keeping family as her priority. In addition to working in social work, Joan was an avid volunteer over the years. Joan volunteered for the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, Spiritus Christi Church, St. Mary Magdelene Church as well several outreach programs associated with the churches. She was joyful when singing in the gospel choir and enjoyed watching her grandchildren's soccer games. Joan will be remembered for constant love for her family, her spirit of gratitude and her desire to ensure that all people are understood, respected and treated fairly. She led a purpose driven life. Joan will be missed dearly.
A celebration of life will be held as soon as travel restrictions are lifted for family members.
