Henrietta - Passed away peacefully on December 16, 2018 at the age of 72 after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Jennie Armstrong. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie K. Armstrong; daughters, Amy (Brendan) Cassidy and Wendy (Kevin) Roche; grandchildren, Lauren and Jackson Cassidy and Nathan and Gavin Roche; brothers, Thomas (Doreen) and William (Margie) Armstrong; brother-in laws, Bill (Chris) Kastner and Jim Kastner, along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
A Wayne Central High School (Class of 1965) and Anderson College (Indiana) graduate, John formerly worked at the University of Rochester and Monroe Community Hospital in the dialysis department, and as an anesthesia tech at Rochester General Hospital. He had also previously held various sales positions at Frontier Communications and National Grants Company, worked as an EMT at National Ambulance, and spent time as a volunteer dispatcher at Henrietta Ambulance. For the last seven years, he was an active member of Harvest Bible Fellowship.
John enjoyed Pittsburgh Steelers wins, telling stories, and a good euchre game (as long as he won!). For the last 12 years, his greatest joy has been spending time with and spoiling his grandchildren.
John's family would like to thank the staff at Hill Haven's Ellison Park Unit for their incredible care and compassion over the last three months – especially Antonio, Jamie, and Craig, whose company John appreciated and enjoyed. They would also like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Lifetime Care Hospice for all their support, especially social worker Lisa Licata and the most caring hospice aide, Thelma West.
John's heart was as big as he was, and his generosity is what he will be remembered for the most. His family will receive friends from 1pm-3pm on Saturday, December 29 at Harvest Bible Fellowship, 1125 Calkins Road, Rochester. All are welcome to stay for a service celebrating John's life beginning at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to consider a donation to Lifetime Care - https://www.lifetimecare.org/donate or
