John T. (Jack) Fisher, 77, of Greece, passed away at Hamilton Manor on
October 11, 2008, of complications related to cancer.
Jack was born in 1931 in Tonawonda, New York, to James and Helen(Hennessey) and moved as a child to Honeoye Falls, New York, along with his brothers James, Danny, and Paul. Their mother died when they were small and Jack was raised by his grandmother. After graduating from high school, he went into the Air Force as an airplane mechanic, achieved the rank of staff sergeant, traveled all over the world, and was particularly proud of servicing the general's plane.
After he was discharged, he lived in Southern California for a while, then moved back to upstate New York, where he met and married the former Jean Borgmann. They lived in turn in Fishers, New York; Rochester's 19th Ward, and Gates, New York. They raised two daughters, Sharon and Maureen, and enjoyed square dancing.
Jack worked in electrical supply during much of his life for Graybar and Requa. After a stint in real estate, he worked at Builder's Supply in the electrical department until his retirement.
After Jean's death of cancer in 1997, Jack was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1998, and recovered after surgery, but continued to suffer from increasing breathing problems as a result. He volunteered at Park Ridge Hospital (now Unity), as a way of repaying them for taking care of him and Jean. There he met his companion Terry Clein, also a volunteer and cancer survivor. They made their home in Greece, and enjoyed travel.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his mother and father, and
his brothers James and Danny. Survived by his companion, Terry; daughters Sharon, of Kuna, Idaho, and Maureen(Gary), of Newark Valley, New York; granddaughter Margaret, of Kuna, Idaho; his brother Paul; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins; and many friends.
