It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Albert George (Jack) on Friday, April 4th, in Rochester, NY, at the young age of 82.

Jack, the loving and devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather, is survived by his wife, Kathy George; brother, Bill George and his wife Bonnie; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Shelby George; daughter Tracy Guiliano, daughter and son-in-law Jaclyn & Mike Deraway and step-daughter Janae and Stan Smith; Grandchildren, Annika Guiliano (partner Dan O’Connell), Alexander Guiliano, Massimo and Nico Mattacola, Olivia (Zachary) Surace and Sam George.

Jack was born in Rome, NY, on 1/21/1943, the son of Edith & William George. Upon graduation from Rome Free Academy, Jack attended Geneseo State College receiving his bachelor degree in teacher education with a minor in Spanish. He taught 4th, 5th & 6th grades for many years in the Rome City School District, followed by several years in the Rush Henrietta School District. During his tenure in the RCSD he received the distinct honor of Teacher of the Year.

A life long writer, Jack had a number of short stories and professional articles as well as numerous pieces of poetry, published in a variety of publications. He was a life long learner of Spanish which he used while spending many winters in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and trips to Europe.

Jack loved his woodworking shop where he made bowls and goblets on his lathe, many trays and utensils, and extensive carvings. His many friends and family share in his treasures and he enjoyed giving them as gifts. Jack was a sweet, gentle man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life - a flower, bird on our backyard water feature, meeting a cute dog on his morning walks,…He loved his home, working in the yard and morning walks in the Park Ave area and Puerto Vallarta community. He enjoyed his grandkids’ sport adventures; baseball, particularly the Brooklyn Dodgers and Rochester Red Wings; football, especially the Buffalo Bills and college basketball chiefly the Syracuse Orange.

He will be missed by his family and friends in Rochester as well as the many friends made over the years in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

To honor Jack’s wishes a private celebration of life will be held at a later date. For donations in Jack’s memory, consider the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund also known as the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Foundation.
