Rochester - Passed away suddenly on June 25, 2021 at the age of 81.
John was a loving husband, father, grandad, brother, uncle and friend. John was born in Dublin Ireland in 1940, and grew up in Surrey, UK where he married Linda in 1965. John and Linda moved to the US and settled in Webster NY where they raised their children Helen, Karen and Brian. John was a dedicated employee of Xerox in Webster for 35 years.
John always enjoyed doing his own home improvements and as well as helping others, always ready with his level and tiny pencil to make sure everything was perfectly straight and square.
A generous and loving Grandad, the grandkids always asked him to be the scooper of ice cream, knowing that he paid special attention to filling the cone before putting an extra large scoop on the top.
John and his brother Kevin in the UK have had regular marathon Skype sessions to keep in touch and visit when they can. As a family we were able to visit England recently and traveled to Dublin together. He and Kevin were able to tour the home they were born in and visit memories from their childhood together.
John loved playing golf and did so anytime he could with his bucket hat and bag cart that he "customized" himself. Always looking to improve, he carried a small card of "Full swing steps" in his wallet at all times. John continued to walk 18 holes until recently.
In the last two years, John's life was greatly touched by a little dog named Minnie who he and Linda rescued. John and Minnie had a special bond. He took great joy in their walks together. Minnie had a special ability to chase away any frustration or upset with a look and a snuggle.
John loved his wife and family deeply. His quiet strength and support continue to be felt. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Pawsitively Cute Rescue (90 Vollmer Pkwy, Rochester, NY 14623i).
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; children, Helen (Gregg Tucci), Karen (Jack Winter), & Brian (Belynda); grandchildren, Eileen, Lillyanna, Colin, Shelby, Olivia, & Jackson; brother, Kevin; sweet dog, Minnie.
The family will hold a Celebration of John's life on July 10 from 2-5 pm. For details please reach out to the family directly or contact them at johnmcnameecelebration@gmail.com for specific information.
