Jonathan C. Verna Sr.
June 30, 1940 — October 26, 2023
ROCHESTER – Passed away surrounded by those he deeply loved and who loved him beyond measure on October 26, 2023 at the age of 83.
Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Josephine Verna and his six siblings; Loretta Sutkins, Elizabeth LaGaipa, Louise Kroll, Anna, Joel and David Verna.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years Corinne (nee Powderly) Verna; children, Michele (James) Bittel, Jonathan "Jay" (Anne) Verna Jr., & Joellyn (Michael Jr.) Pierce; grandchildren, Vanessa, Simeon, Eleanor, Aaron, Josephine, & Abigail Bittel, & Joshua Verna; many nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends.
Jon had a very strong faith which was instilled in him by his Mother when he was a very young boy. He would sit and read the Bible to her as she worked around the house. He has never waivered from his beliefs. During his courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease he was never afraid of what was to come. He always said his God would take care of him.
He was also a very talented musician who played guitar and sang. He performed in many different groups and venues during his career. His love of music brought his family to a greater appreciation of all musical genres.
Jon's love of cars started in childhood. He grew to appreciate them when his Dad or brothers would take him to car dealers to pick up brochures for all the cars. He also was a gearhead and loved his cars, "57 Chevy, '63 Pontiac Grand Prix, '66 Mustang Fastback and others, along with his Triumph TT motorcycle. He also raced at Spencer Speedway.
Family was at the core of his being and he was a loving husband and devoted father.
He was a doting uncle to his 13 nieces and nephews prior to marrying the love of his life, Reyne, and being blessed with three children of their own.
Jon's life was complete when he and his wife were blessed with seven amazing grandchildren who called him Nonno.
Family will receive friends 2 – 6 pm Monday, November 6, 2023 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue. His Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at All Season's Chapel at White Haven Memorial Park, 210 Marsh Road.
