Joseph G. Ennis, a distinguished educator and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, at Fairport Baptist Home. Born on July 25, 1936, Joseph devoted his life to education, serving as School Superintendent in multiple districts throughout New York State. His commitment to fostering an enriching environment for students was unwavering, and he left an indelible mark on many lives throughout his extensive career.
Joseph was an avid reader with a particular passion for history and current events. He also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Port Bay New York, where he cherished moments with family and friends. A proud fan of Notre Dame, he embraced the joy of sports.
Family was of utmost importance to Joseph. He is survived by his children, Meg Mraz, Thomas (Gabi) Ennis, and Regina (Nick) Rigano, who carry forward his legacy of love and laughter. He was a dedicated grandfather to his grandchildren, Christopher Mraz, Brianna, Joseph, and Chase Rigano, and Mollie Ennis, all of whom brought him immense joy.
Joseph's personality was characterized by his gregarious nature and generous spirit, Joe enjoyed a good time and a glass of good scotch. He loved his children and always emphasized the importance of family, creating a warm and nurturing atmosphere for his loved ones. He proudly held a Doctorate Degree from St. John's University in Jamaica, New York, which is where he first met his beloved wife, Patricia. Their bond was strong, Joseph remained a devout Catholic throughout his life, cherishing the moral values imparted by his faith.
In addition to his professional achievements, Joseph was proud of his family. He is mourned by his siblings, Sara Wuensch of Staten Island, Elizabeth Anne (Charles) LaRosa of New Jersey, and many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Ennis, sons Vincent and James, son-in-law Tom Mraz, and siblings Vincent Ennis, Amelia Brandt, and Gerard Ennis.
Calling hours for Joseph G. Ennis will take place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at New Comer Cremations & Funerals located at 6 Empire Blvd, Rochester, NY 14609 from 2pm to 3pm. Followed by a Prayer Service starting at 3:00 PM.
Joseph G. Ennis will be remembered as a dedicated educator, a loving family man, and a generous soul who made a lasting impact on all who knew him. His warmth, wisdom, and joyous spirit will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of his family and friends.
Josephs Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Angels Church 7320 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11209, on Monday April 28, 2025 at 1:30pm.
His burial will follow immediately after mass at, Holy Cross Cemetery, 3620 Tilden Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11203.
