Joy Kinz, beloved mother and grandmother, peacefully passed away Tuesday April 14, 2020 at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her son, Jeffrey Kinz.
Joy was born in Potsdam, NY, the daughter of Roland and Constance Dorothy. She obtained her Masters at SUNY Brockport, then worked as a Guidance Counselor at Cal-Mum High School, while raising 5 children. She encouraged students to meet their potential and pursue higher education. She was a dedicated member of Delta Kappa Gamma, AHS Phi Beta Kappa and AAUW. She strongly believed in supporting women in politics, and was an avid supporter of Emily's list.
She is survived by her children; Steven (Debra) Kinz, Judith Kinz, Hollie (Alan) Conner, Leslie (Thomas) Fitzpatrick. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Cristina, David (Heather), and Mark Kinz, Colin & Patrick Kinz-Thompson, Kara & Lily Kinz, Sean & Kerry Conner, Rachael (Aaron) Wehner, and Brendan Fitzpatrick, 2 great-grandchildren, Jayden Newnham-Fitzpatrick, and Brant Kinz, and her sister, Jean Evans.
Her family & friends knew her as a wise, loving & selfless woman who knew how to guide without judgement. She loved to laugh and was passionate about Women's rights. One of her favorite quotes was "Eventually our side will win. When the country was first founded only white men with property could vote. We have come far, do not despair."
No Immediate services are planned because of concerns about the coronavirus. A memorial may be held in the future.
