J.Thomas Raisner

December 4, 1931 — October 17, 2021

John Thomas Raisner was born on December 4th 1931 in Doylestown Pennsylvania and left this life on October 17th, 2021. He is survived by his beloved wife of over sixty years, Thekla, his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Chris Roberts and grandchildren, Mia and Paige. He was predeceased by his cherished son, Craig, who waits for him to play in that heavenly band. He is also survived by his first and best friends, his brothers Charles Raisner, Chris Raisner and his sister Sue (Herb) Mather. His sister, Eleanor Roberts, was the first of these close knit siblings to leave this earth. Additionally, Tom enjoyed the support of a large extended family made up of countless nieces, nephews and grands all around. His friends and neighbors were like a second family to him and they could not have been more supportive.

Tom was the son of John and Mary Raisner, he grew up in New Britain, Pennsylvania and enjoyed visiting his childhood home whenever possible. He graduated from Doylestown High School, William Jewell College and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Tom was an American Baptist Minister, and served churches throughout Ohio and New York State. His last full-time church was in Ilion, New York and he maintained many close relationships there. Retirement did not suit him, so shortly after moving to Pittsford, New York he returned to work as an interim minister. He had two long-term placements at the churches in Geneva and Clifton Springs, New York. His love of learning and sharing with others was evident in the care that he showed to his congregation and the greater community throughout his sixty plus years of service.

Tom's other great love was music. He played Cornet and enjoyed traditional Dixieland Jazz. For many years he sat in with the Cake Walking Jazz Band in Toledo, Ohio. He brought this love to church and put together a succession of Dixieland hymn sings. He traveled throughout the country to jazz festivals and counted a number of professional musicians as lifelong friends.

Memorial services will be held at a future date.
