Karen Ackerman, 59, of Rochester, NY passed peacefully in her home on January 20, 2017. Survived by her daughter Amber (Brian Arliss), brother Charles, sisters Marcia (Gene Humphreys) and Jeanne, dog Claude, cat's Gizmo and Teddi and Paul the chinchilla.
During her time on this earth Karen made sure to live life to the fullest. She loved meeting new people and taking part in adventures that led to memorable moments (like that time she held a sloth in cartagena, colombia and thought she got fleas). It is impossible to mention everything; it would take volumes to fit all the stories, photos and wisecracks.
Karen was a deeply caring person, when you became her friend you became her family. She loved so deeply, and always made sure others were taken care of before herself. She was an animal lover, a caring sister and the most amazing mother a daughter could ask for...there are no words to describe how much she will be missed.
Karen made a mark on this planet and on the hearts of many individuals. Her passing may cause tears, but knowing her she would much rather everyone remembered moments that bring smiles and laughter. We hope over the next few days, months, or even years you will share these moments with her family and friends.
Calling hours will take place Sunday, January 29 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 6 Empire Blvd, Rochester, NY 14609. We invite friends to join us at Newport Yacht Club, 694 Seneca Rd, Rochester, NY 14617 from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm to share stories and light refreshments.
Karen was a passionate animal lover and rescuer. In lieu of flowers her family asks that donations be made in her memory to either Rochester Hope for Pets (http://rochesterhopeforpets.org/support-us/) or Verona Street Animal Society (http://vsas.org/donate).
