Karen R. Bruinsma
February 23, 1945 — March 12, 2017

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away on March 12th, 2017 at the age of 72.
Predeceased by her parents Fred and Ruth Beck, she is survived by her loving husband of almost 50 years, Walter; daughter Virginia (Jeffrey) Kuryla; son Thomas (Kimberly) Bruinsma; grandchildren Elizabeth, Amanda, Adaline and Benjamin; sister Phyllis Beck; brothers Alan (Arlene) and Keith (Joan) Beck, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Karen was a teacher for over 30 years with positions in Avoca, East Irondequoit and Webster. In 2001, she retired as the school librarian at Klem Road North Elementary in Webster. Karen was an avid reader and knitter. Many friends and family enjoy the Christmas stockings that she lovingly made and she collaborated with the knitters at Rochester Christian Reformed Church to donate hundreds of pairs of mittens to needy children in the Rochester area. Karen enjoyed crafting and spent much time tole painting with her mother and sister.
A memorial service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday April 1st, 2017 at Rochester Christian Reformed Church, 2750 Atlantic Ave, Penfield, NY 14526.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rochester Christian Reformed Church Memorial Fund.
