Rochester - Passed away surrounded by family on April 5, 2024 at the age of 89.
Predeceased by his sisters, Ann, Rose & Antoinette.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Maria; sons, Lawrence (Debbie) & Jimmy (Joyce); granddaughter, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Jack & Amani; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lawrence grew up on Broad St. in the City of Rochester with his parents and 3 sisters. Without graduating high school, he was determined to make a great life for himself; and he accomplished that.
He met the love of his life, Maria, through a mutual friend; they married and expanded their family shortly after. They had two sons, Lawrence and James.
Married to Maria for 66 years, his unwavering dedication to his family as a provider and leader never went unnoticed. Lawrence took great pride working as a Machinist at Roehlen Engraving for many years. After retirement, Lawrence enjoyed spending more time with his family, which included his granddaughter, Amanda & eventually great-grandchildren Jack and Amani.
He adopted a love for cooking and frequented Wegmans on Lyell almost daily. "Larry" was known throughout the family for his artichokes, tripe, and squid salad. He would frequent many stores to find the perfect artichokes, often throwing a fit to the Lyell Ave produce manager, who knew him by name. They would bring cases out to him so he could inspect them, finding the perfect one!
Larry received frequent requests from his granddaughter and great-grandchildren to make Pasta e lenticchie, a simple yet favorite dish of theirs. Larry and his sons spent time planting garlic in the yard, which always brought him joy! He also cherished time spent with his beloved "grand dog", Lucille but no dog could win his heart over like his original girl, Daisy.
He was a witty man, always filled with one-liners, peculiar theories, and fascinating stories from the past. Larry lived a life that provided all of life's true treasures.
A one-of-a-kind man who will be missed deeply but remembered forever.
His Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 12, 2024 at New Comer Cremations & Funerals - Westside Chapel, 2636 Ridgeway Avenue. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 2461 Lake Ave.
