Lloyd L. Lembcke, a devoted family man and respected member of his community, passed away on December 23, 2024, at the age of 96 and a half years. Born on June 2, 1928, in Rochester, NY, he spent his life dedicated to his family and career as a jeweler who also repaired clocks and watches. Lloyd was the proprietor of O'Brien's Jewelers on Dewey Avenue. He was a cherished figure to his family, evident in the life he built with his beloved wife, Betty-Lou. Together, they shared over 68 years of marriage, navigating life's joys and challenges hand-in-hand. His love for her was the cornerstone of his life, providing a model of commitment and partnership that will inspire future generations.
Lloyd was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greece, NY for over 63 years. He was honored with several awards for his dedication to the club and the community. He found happiness geocaching and enjoying the outdoors—whether engaging in a round of golf, hunting, snowmobiling, fishing with his grandchildren, or riding his bike. He also enjoyed bird watching and spent time crafting handmade bird feeders. He enjoyed collecting and working on antique clocks. He was an avid handyman. He loved to remodel and repair homes and furniture. How many people can both build a house and repair a tiny watch movement? These hobbies reflected his deep appreciation for nature and time spent with loved ones.
He is survived by his devoted children: Amy (Bruce) Branca, Karen (Stephen Petergal) Lembcke, Nancy (Steven) Hale, and David (Carlene Woodworth-Lembcke) Lembcke. Lloyd took great pride in being Papa to his grandchildren—Gregory Woodworth, Heather (Brian) Wright, David (Katie) Branca, Thea Petergal, Jeremy Lembcke, Zachary (Grace) Hale, Nicholas Hale, and Emma Petergal. His role as a great-Papa to Elliot Wright and Lucy Hale filled him with joy.
Lloyd is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sally Conway, along with many nieces and nephews and friends who looked up to him with admiration. His absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Lloyd Lembcke is predeceased by his soul mate, Betty-Lou, whose love defined his life, and by his parents, Christian and Louise Lembcke. Their memories will live on, woven into the stories of the family that Lloyd so lovingly cultivated.
His Celebration of Life will be held at Greece Baptist Church, 1230 Long Pond Road on January 25, 2025, beginning at 11:00 AM. It is a time for family and friends to gather, to share memories, and to honor a man whose legacy will echo in the hearts of all he cherished. As we remember Lloyd, may we find solace in the memories he gifted us, and may we honor him by living with the same devotion and passion he exemplified every day of his life.
