LIVERPOOL- Louise Pelton Staring, 91, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 surrounded by the love of her family.
Louise was born in Herkimer, NY on April 17, 1929 to the late Edwin and Antoinette Pelton.
She was an Ilion High School graduate, earned her Bachelor's Degree from Elmira College in 1950, and did post-graduate work at Cornell University. She married Arthur Staring of Mohawk in 1952, and they were married until his passing in 2014. During her early career she was an English and history teacher for the Hannibal school district and an administrative assistant for General Electric. After taking time away to raise her daughters, she returned to the workforce part time with Liverpool schools, before accepting a full time editor position in the proposals department for General Electric. After Louise retired, she enjoyed her hobbies and time with her family. She loved reading and was an accomplished knitter. Louise was an avid Contract Bridge player, earning the Silver Life Master designation. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and an active member at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Liverpool. In recent years she relocated to the Rochester area to be closer to her daughter. She held special affection for and enjoyed spending time with all of her "grand-dogs".
She is predeceased by her husband Arthur, her sister Mary Ann Pelton and a nephew, Garrett Pelton.
She is survived by her brother Stewart (Barbara) Pelton of Bradenton, FL, her daughters Gretchen (Dan) Shyne of Selkirk and Heather Melnick (Lynn Relyea) of Fairport. She is also survived by her grandsons Andrew Melnick of Fairfax, VA and Daniel Melnick also of Fairport, her niece Kari Dillon of Ilion, as well as cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mrs. Staring will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer.
